  14Jun05: Lesson 11

  type="application/x-mplayer2" pluginspage="http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Downloads/Contents/MediaPlayer/"

Today you're going to play an interactive Geography game about Europe. Let's see how much you know about the location of European countries!! Rodrigo sent me the link. It's very cool!!!

Then you're going to our blog to listen to Dennis' video email. He sent it a week ago. It was very sweet of him. He also sent some Web pages about Arizona, the state he lives in. Let's look at them, too!

Finally, how about recording a video email for everybody that sent you messages these past two years? So many friends you have all over the world! Do you want to look at our interactive map to have an idea?

Did you ever imagine that you would meet (= conheceriam) so many people from so many different parts of the world? I didn't.

Enjoy the CALL lesson!

  7Jun05: Lesson 10

1. Let's start today's lesson by looking at our interactive map. There are a few new entries. Two of them are in the United States. When you find them, I will tell who they are. Would you like to send them a message?

There are two others that I don't know. I think that we should delete them. What do you think?

2. Now let's go to our blog and see the "Ode to Joy" group videos and a video message for you all from a dear friend of mine. Would you like to send a nice message back?

3. Finally, when I was teaching the TESOL PP 104 online course last May, which I just told you about, I created some exercises for you with Irregular verbs in the Simple Past. I wanted to show the course students some of the tools they could use. Do you want to try them? Click Activities and do the following:

  • Easter in Spain (Hot Potatoes)
  • Simple Past: Irregular verbs (speedword & wordweb)

Hope you have fun while you're learning!

  24May05: Lesson 9

You asked to do some interactive exercises today. Well, let's go to the Activities page and do the following exercises:

  • Simple Past - Regular verbs (jigword, speedword & wordweb) [I prepared these for you yesterday evening.]
  • Simple Present: English and Portuguese
  • Simple Present (quiz)

Hope you learn and enjoy yourselves!

  24May05: Lesson 8

6F will

  • listen to and watch CJ play La Cucaracha in the flute and then a small group of students will prepare a surprise for CJ, Aiden and everyone who follows our work!  ;-)
  • read Barbara Dieu's message in Dekita about our blog and the work we are doing;
  • leave a comment directly in Dekita.

6G will

  • look at lesson 7 for inspiration and then record two voice messages for CJ
    • one showing him what you are learning in Chinese;
    • the other teaching him two new sentences in Portuguese;
  • listen to and watch CJ play La Cucaracha in the flute;
  • read Barbara Dieu's message in Dekita about our blog and the work we are doing.

Hope you all enjoy today's lesson!

  17May05: Lesson 7

Today you can choose (= escolher) what you want to do.

1. Portuguese and Chinese lessons

Let's see how many Chinese words we have learned! And let's see what CJ and Aiden have learned in Portuguese!

Chinese is difficult, isn't it? I think so!

Do you think that Portuguese is also hard for CJ? We have to ask him!

English Chinese /sound/ in Port. Portuguese Who said it?
Thank you! Chechia /shéshia/ Obrigada! Aiden, 14Apr
Hello! Ni Hao /ni hau/ Olá! Aiden, 30Apr
Good morning! Tzao An! /zau án/ Bom dia! Aiden, 30Apr
Good Bye! Tzai Chien! /zai tién/ Adeus! Aiden, 30Apr
I'm...   /uó she/ Eu sou... CJ, 4May
What's your name?   /ni djau sa ma min tze/ Como te chamas? CJ, 4May

How about showing CJ what you can say in Chinese? Make something like:

- Hello! Good morning!                 /Ni hau, CJ! Zau án!/

- I'm ..... . What's your name?     /Uó she ... Ni djau sa ma min tze?/

- Thank you! Good bye!                 /Shéshia! Zai tién!/

And what about teaching CJ something new in Portuguese today?

- Eu tenho ... anos de idade. (I'm ... years old.)

- Quantos anos tens? (How old are you?)

Then you can finish with a complete dialogue!

- Ola, CJ! Bom dia!

- Eu sou o/a .... .

- Tenho ... anos de idade.

- Quantos anos tens tu?

- Adeus!

2. Listen to Sharon's SitePal message!

3. Look at our Interactive map.

4. Do some Interactive exercises. Some were created by Agata.

Enjoy!

  10May05: Lesson 6 (6G)

VIP(oint): Please read the instructions before you start.

1. Let's take a look at our interactive map and see if there's a new message.

If so, who is it from? And where is she?

Do you know who she is? I'll tell you! Take a look! We have worked together!  :-)

Let's read the message she sent me and see what she says.

Now let's reply to Mrs. Rutland's message. Would you like (= Gostariam) to send her a voice message, too?

2. Now let's listen to CJ's message from 4th May. Let's see if you can understand what he's teaching you! And let's teach him how to say the same in Portuguese!

Enjoy!

  3May2005/10May05: Lesson 5-6 (6F)

This lesson was cancelled (= cancelada) last week during class due to connection problems. I hope it works fine today!  :-)

VIP(oint): Please read the instructions before you start.

Today you will do the "Mystery Guest" activity, a collaboration between the MG and me!

Let's see if you all behave well and work extra well to be able to (= para serem capazes de) finish everything!

Don't forget to write your answers in your exercise-books! Ready for action? Here we go!

1. Do you remember the name of our MG? What country does she live in? Write the answers in your exercise book.

2. Now do the activity below to find out (= para descobrirem) the name of her city and state. For help you can visit the web pages that are included in some of the items.

Enjoy today's lesson!

There is an ocean between us. Which one is it? [http://go.hrw.com/atlas/norm_htm/world.htm]

I live close to (= near) the ocean.

The name of my state starts with an M. [Write down the names of the states on that coast: there are three! http://www.infoplease.com/states.html]

The state I live in is not in the middle.  It’s closer to the top than to the bottom. [Can you eliminate a state on your list?]

Everyone in my town loves baseball!  Do you like baseball? [Answer the question.]

The city I live in has a famous baseball team with two names. The first is the name of a color. The second sounds like what boys and men wear on their feet inside their shoes. What is it? Any ideas? Does anyone know?

It's also the city where there was a famous Tea Party back in 1773. [Let's have one student come to the computer and do a search for "tea party".]

So... where do I live? Which city? Which state? And what is the abbreviation for that state? [http://www.infoplease.com/states.html]

Now that you have finished your activity, you deserve a surprise! Click here to see something fa-bu-lous!

Let's write our MG's address. Look carefully at the board and, as if by magic, you will see the area where our MG lives! Yes, it's true!

Hope you enjoy it! I have! I have! It's fa-bu-lous, isn't it?!

Finally, here are some Web pages that you can look at about the Boston Tea Party, the Boston Red Sox, Massachussetts and Boston:

  3May2005: Lesson 5 (6G)

VIP(oint): Please read the instructions before you start.

Today you will work on the interactive map and on more SitePal messages. Don't forget: you copy the messages you send in your exercise-book.

Let's see if you all behave well and work extra well to be able to (= para serem capazes de) finish everything!

1. Click interactive map and find a message with a question. It's not on land (= em terra)! Read it and reply (= answer) with a short message.

2. Click Have Fun with English and listen to CJ's SitePal message. CJ is Aiden's son. Learn how to pronounce the three new words in Chinese and record them. You can say them in English, Chinese and Portuguese. Wow! Three languages all in one lesson!!!

3. Now listen to Aiden's SitePal message and learn the same words also in Tagalog, a language from the Philippines.

4. Write a message to her using the new words and record it!

If there is time, there are two surprises! Click here for the first and enjoy it! I really did!

Click here for the second and see how famous 6G and 6F are becoming (= estão a tornar-se)! Read the April 30 message.

Enjoy today's lesson!

  28Apr2005: Lesson 4

VIP(oint): Please read the instructions before you start.

We have a simple lesson today. We will listen to two voice messages from two colleagues and friends of mine: Aiden Yeh in Taiwan and Ramona Dietrich in the greater Lisbon area. They are both Webheads in Action and they both participated in my presentation on our blog last week.

1. Listen attentively to Aiden's message recorded with SitePal. See if you like her avatar and if it looks like her (= se se parece com ela).

2. Listen a second time and see if you can understand a little more. Try to listen to the word she teaches you in Chinese and Tagalo.

3. Record a voice message to show Aiden that she's a 'great' teacher and to thank her for the idea!  :-)

4. Next, listen attentively to Ramona's message twice and see how much you understand.

5. Record a message for her.

Next week there is more about our "mystery guest"! Enjoy!

  14Apr2005: Lesson 3

VIP(oint): Please read the instructions before you start.

1. Let's go to our Interactive map and see if there are any new posts.

Take a good look at the map! Are all the teachers very far away from us? Is there any teacher who is near us? If so, where?

2. And now let's look at our blog and see what's new! I think there are a couple of surprises!

3. Finally, let's go back to SitePal and send a voice message!

Enjoy the lesson!
